Over the years condensation can build up in between the double glazed units in your windows, causing them to appear fogged up and cloudy looking. This problem is often referred to as broken down or steamed up double glazing. This takes the light away from inside your house and decreases the thermal value of the window itself.
The windows may also become draughty. Handles, hinges and locks can start to give problems. At this point you may think the best solution would be to replace the windows and be done with it. This can be very expensive and cause quite a lot of disruption in a house. Not to mention the re-decorating that needs to be done afterwards.
In most cases though, window frames, whether they are aluminium, upvc or timber can be still in good condition and do not need to be replaced at all.
